So like, that's that...

ANYWAY, what interesting about this show is the fact that, from what I remember anyway, this is actually the show where Mamoru Oshii got his start as a director (I remember stories of how Oshii, when he was still working as the show's director [I think someone eventually took over after a while], and his staff would practically live at the studio given that the show didn't have season breaks).

He's developed into a more sophisticated filmmaker now [his latest, Sky Crawlers, was great, by the way], but it's interesting to see that remnants of his comedic style still float around in his later, seemingly more serious movies: whether it be Detective Matsui looking for a phone in Patlabor 2 or Batou pulling a machine gun out of the trunk of his car in Innocence, I always get a hoot at Oshii's quirky comedy.

In fact, there was this one strange moment in Sky Crawlers where these 2 characters sit on these automated horses and start rocking back and forth (they didn't put money in, so they were doing it physically)... it could be that Oshii just needed them to be doing something while having a conversation... or, it could be that this is a clever metaphor for the characters who aren't quite adults, yet aren't quite children either: despite the seriousness of the conversation, they find themselves doing something childish (or, this is how I remember it being anyway; need to see the movie again soon as Oshii's work tends to warrant a rewarding experience through subsequent viewing; I must've seen Ghost in the Shell Innocence like a dozen times over the last few years).

Oh, yeah, so, the drawing turned out okay... liked it better than the Shampoo one, really.

Blah blah blah.
